Chicago style.
Lauren Larsen
Happy Thursday! I am particularly happy about today because tomorrow I am hopping on a plane to go explore a new city, Chicago! Chi-town is one of the only large US cities that I have not yet been, and it is safe to say I am overjoyed with travel anticipation.
I cannot wait to scope out the shopping districts, the food scene and indulge in some uniquely crafted cocktails. I've been receiving lists of 'must dos' from some of my friends and every single one of them has ensured me that I am going to absolutely love the Chicago vibe. Underground supper clubs, speakeasies, unique coffee shops, juice bars, shopping, street style, SOUL CYCLE and live music equate to a personal heaven for me.
Enough about me, let's get to the style. Because some of my time in Chicago is going to be spent working, I have been searching around the inter web for unique shopping opportunities and street style photos - what i've found is impressive, to say the least. Fulfilling special outfit requests for my clients has become more exciting than adding pieces to my own wardrobe, and Chicago is the perfect city to make the magic happen!
Check out these two stylish folks below. These photos are not my own, but if I do happen to stumble upon anyone dressed as fantastically as this, I will be sure to snap a photo. The oxblood blazer paired with a linen button-up and wax-coated denim (on him) makes for an edgy, yet dapper ensemble perfect for fall days. Her leather detailed graphic tee paired with a leather skirt make for a perfect casual, but put-together day look.
Here are a few of my favourite Chicago inspired style pieces.
- Chelsea boots. I've said it before and I'll say it again - if you don't have yourself a pair, your ensemble is missing out on an important piece. These boots are so classic, so dapper and so wonderful that you'd be silly not to purchase a pair. If The Beatles think they're cool, they're cool.
- Textured suiting. Cord, tweed, wool, basically any fabric that has texture is cool-weather friendly. Because Chicago's climate is comparable to Calgary's at this time of year, this style tip is relevant to both area codes.
- Tailored green pants paired with a crew neck sweater and sportcoat.
There you have it, a post on Chicago from someone who has never been to Chicago (yet). I will be sure to fill you all in upon my return.
Stay dapper,
- Ensemble Style
