Spring 2014 Wardrobe Essentials

Although it may not look like it outside, this is the beginning of spring, which means it is time to start stocking up on warm weather appropriate clothing, purchasing the latest style of sunglasses and dusting off the sandals!
Because we are so very excited to welcome spring & summer into our closets, we've decided to put together a post dedicated to the sweet, sweet spring of twenty fourteen (it even rhymes).
Starting from the bottom….
Shoes
Casual Shoes
Trainers: with the sports luxe trend on the rise, including a pair of stylish trainers (not to be confused with gym runners) into your wardrobe is a must. Grab some in all-black or all-white, or grab a pair in a funky colour.
Sandals: We are always a fan of anything classic and/or leather. A pair of Birkenstocks are sure to keep you looking stylish.

Dress Shoes
Keep it simple, keep it classy. We cannot tell you enough how much we at Ensemble Style appreciate the timeless elegance of a simple & classic wardrobe piece. Whether it be a watch, jacket, shoes, tie… whatever, as long as it is plain enough to have staying power, we are behind it.
Follow these dress shoe rules:
Classic Ferragamo cap toe shoes.
- Brown shoes are paired with a brown belt
- Black shoes are paired with a black belt
- Simple, plain and classic
- Good quality leather
Pants/Shorts
Chinos, twill trousers, light denim & shorts with colour. Essentially, your winter jeans can be worn in the spring and summer, but we recommend stocking up on some twill trousers, light denim & shorts in various colours/fabrics. Ensemble Style can help you with this!
Jackets
The Working Man Jacket
Inspired by the French revolutionaries, this jacket is making a statement this spring. From traditional heritage brands like Barbour & Ben Sherman to high fashion brands, it seems everyone has their take on the worker jacket. Our favourite is approximately 1 part military, 1 part contemporary and 2 parts casual.
The Light Grey Sportcoat
Spring is for lighter coloured suits. We suggest investing in a perfectly tailored light grey suit that you can break apart and wear the jacket with jeans or chinos on casual Fridays or weekends. A light grey suit is also perfect
Shirts
The Denim Shirt
Chambray, chambray, chambray! If you don’t have one of these in your wardrobe yet, let us make it our mission to ensure you get one soon. Whether it is printed, plain, dark, light or coloured denim, the chambray shirt is a MUST for spring/summer 2014.
A couple other shirt suggestions are to stock up on light cotton tees, cotton sweaters (think sports luxe) and henleys.
Accessories
Of course we are always a fan of man beads and lapel pins, but here are some other suggestions...
Sunglasses
The traditional wayfarers, although classic and timeless, have seen their best days. This year we are leaning towards the more contemporary version with round edges that flatter (almost) all face shapes.
Wrist Jewelry
Is no longer just for ladies, guys! Wear a distressed leather or wood version on the weekends and a polished stone or marble with your work day ensemble.
Liam Hemsworth is a big fan of the man beads!
Beanies
Historically, spring can be quite cold in Calgary. During the colder days, throw on a beanie and your style cred will go up 3 points (at least).
