Spring Wardrobe Essentials
Lauren Larsen
Spring is in the air, almost, and before it hits us in full swing, we need to take a look at our closets to ensure our wardrobes are as prepared as we are for the warmer weather.
Each gentleman should have a good number of transitional and weather appropriate pieces in his wardrobe to ensure readiness for all spring occasions, like when your buddy calls with that last minute BBQ invite. Although plenty of Spring days call for shorts and a t-shirt, there are still those questions rainy days and evenings that seem to drop in temperature by more a more than necessary amount. Stock up on those warmer jackets, sweaters and waterproof layers so that you’re ready, no matter what!
Optimal spring wardrobe readiness should look a little like this:
Shoes
Spring is the first time of the year we are able to bare our feet, and if you’re anything like me, by now, this is an extremely appealing thought. That being said, sandals are a staple for your spring wardrobe. In addition to these, I’d also suggest picking up a pair of shoes with a rubber sole, for the rainy days, a pair of sneakers and a pair of loafers (that you’ll wear without socks, of course).

Jackets
Having a nice light bomber jacket, a utilitarian canvas jacket and a deconstructed sportcoat at your helm will ensure you have an appropriate jacket for any occasion.

Pants
Grab a pair of light-wash or grey denim, a pair of joggers and a pair of chinos and you’re set!

Shirts
Because the weather can be uncertain during this time of year – it is important to stock up on some long-sleeve shirts and sweaters. You don’t need to go the chunky cable-knit sweater route, but a nice light pullover is nice to have as a layering piece, or on it’s own.
Another shirt style I really like in the spring is a short-sleeved button-up. I’d recommend buying one in white, and in a couple different colours and patterns to mix it up.

T-shirts
Great t-shirts are a little bit like finding a perfectly crafted Manhattan – they are difficult to find, but once you do, you’ll be loyal to its creator for the foreseeable future. I have a couple different favourite tee-shirt brands that have earned my loyalty, and believe a man should have a white, grey and black in both crewneck and v-neck styles. I’d recommend checking out Naked and Famous’ crew necks and Everlane’s selection of v-necks. Grab a few of each and you will be set for both spring and summer.

Shorts
Have a few pair of shorts ready for the warmer days. I’d recommend having a selection of basics - black, blue and khaki, as they are versatile and easily paired with almost everything. Additionally you should have a couple pairs of funky colours or patterns in your repertoire, and a pair of denim shorts, for when the rockstar in you wants to make an appearance.
