elevate your success by adopting a few simple habits
Lauren Larsen
Whether your goal is to land the promotion, own the house, get the girl, drive the latest AMG model, or to have a million dollars in the bank, a few life changes can be implemented to help you get there.
I've been doing some reading on the habits of very successful people, and have been musing on a few simple quotidian habits that can take your life to the next level, and help you reach those lofty goals.
OWN YOUR MORNINGS
They say 'the early bird catches the worm', and based on a number of studies of very successful people, this statement couldn't be more true. Of course we all need our sleep to stay healthy, but it's been shown time and time again that going to bed and waking up a little earlier can help you not only accomplish more in the day, but also help to cultivate success. It might take a while to adjust to loving mornings, especially if you've been hitting the snooze button since you were a young adult, but once the change is made, and you start to get accustomed to it, you may just start liking them! AND, think of all those extra things you can get done with a couple more hours in your day.
MAKE TIME TO WORK OUT
Working out regularly is so good for so many reasons. Besides keeping you healthy, a gym sesh releases feel good endorphins {which is the same thing your brain releases during laughter and sex} that can help turn an unproductive day around. Another good reason for working out is that when you're physically in shape, you feel better, you walk more confidently, and people notice. Studies have shown that confidence is perceived as attractiveness... and trust me when I say that for women, confidence is the number one thing we are drawn to. So get your butt into that gym and work out... no excuses.
TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR APPEARANCE
Of course this one probably goes without saying, but until I see majority of guys dressed like they give a damn, I feel like it is necessary to mention it. My job revolves around elevating confidence by making people look good on the outside. I know it seems superficial, but I can't even begin to explain just how significant the changes I see are once a person's wardrobe has been dialled in. People notice, my client's are treated differently, I've had guys get promotions shortly after, start to date {total babes} again after a divorce and/or breakup... get compliments from their friends... co-workers, bosses, etc., turn heads on the street, and so many more wonderful things. It is amazing how much of an effect your clothing and way you present yourself to the world has on your overall demeanour. AND the coolest part is, that once people see you give a damn, you're going to notice a huge difference, not only in the way people treat you, but also in the way people act around you, and that can change how you feel about yourself, increase your confidence, elevate your mood, land you a promotion, get you on a date with that mega babe you've had your eyes on, make your wife give you those 'sex eyes' you haven't seen in a couple of years, and so so so much more. I am not in the superficial business of 'fashion', i'm in the business of making people look damn good so that they feel damn good. Good enough that others notice... and that they start to feel better about themselves. SO, take pride in your appearance... or ask me and I will do it for you ;).
GET REGULAR HAIR CUTS
This one fits with the point above, but keeping the hair groomed is another MUST DO for dudes. Your hair grows out quickly, and requires a little extra maintenance than us girls... so book in for a cut every 4 weeks at least, and keep it tight. HedKandi is an amazing salon here in Calgary that offers cleanups {for free} after two weeks of your initial service... which is awesome and definitely makes the cost of the haircut more affordable. Say I sent you, you may get a deal ;).
TAILOR YOUR SUITS
It doesn't matter if you're an entry level analyst or a corporate CEO, a tailored suit is a key to success. I'm not saying you have to get it from me {although i'd totally love it if you did}, but even if you're buying one off the rack, you NEED to tailor it to fit your body... unless of course you look like a model and everything fits you perfectly off-the-rack. When you walk into that interview, or into a client/prospective client meeting, a suit that fits you well will say without saying "I'm damn good at what I do, I am professional, and can be taken seriously". If you waltz in a suit that doesn't fit, pants that are too long and loose, and look schlubby {I stole that word from a colleague of mine and absolutely love it... feel free to use it}, your first impression just went down at least 5 points. Look at it this way... the deal you just closed in your tailored suit will more than cover the cost of it... and will close you at least 5 more deals... so I mean, it's a pretty good investment.
